Kymenlaakso region, Finland, hosted a side event on Blockchain Technologies and Regional Drone Experiments on the European Week of Regions and Cities in Brussels on 10th of Oct. The Event explored new blockchain based data SmartLog IoT logistics solution and drones and robotics experiments developed in the innovative Kymenlaakso area in the South-Eastern part of Finland and tested on the TEN-T corridors.
Keynote speaker Ms. Chiara Mazzone, Expert on Blockchain technologies and Innovations, from DG CONNECT, opened up the origin and coming development trends of blockchain technology on his opening speech.
The case presentation, SmartLog IoT – efficient blockchain based data analytics for industry 4. was held by Mr. Mika Lammi, Head of IoT Business Development, from Kouvola Innovation Ltd. The project funded by Celtral Baltic programme studies the potential of using Blockchain Technology in logistic supply chain.
The other case focused on building regional drone technology competence through experiments, building up the ecosystem and potential of business opportunities. The case was presented by Mr. Patrick Halford, Director of Business Development from Redstone Aero Nordic.
Research has shown that solutions can save up to 3% of transaction cost per supplier and thus guarantee a significant reduction in transport spends.
The event was held on Helsinki EU-office, in Brussels. Mr. Jaakko Mikkola, The Regional Mayor of Kymenlaakso, opened the event by highlighting the importance of European cooperation as a catalyst for regional development and growth. The event gathered together over 50 international experts. The European Commission and Parliament and the Delegations from other European regions.
